The delegation of the Court of Accounts, visiting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden and Sida

The consolidation of the external public audit in the Republic of Moldova and progress of the supreme audit institution in the context of the European agenda were discussed during the meeting of the President of the Court of Accounts of the Republic of Moldova (CoARM), Marian Lupu, with the Head of the Department for Eastern Europe of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden , Bjorn Linderfalk.

The discussions took place during the visit of the CoARM’s delegation to the MFA of Sweden, organized today, December 16, by the Swedish National Audit Office (SNAO), in the context of the Cooperation Project between SNAO and the CoARM.

Marian Lupu informed the Swedish official about the successes recorded by the Court of Accounts in the process of reforming and aligning with the rigors of the International Auditing Standards of the profile organization INTOSAI, as well as about the valuable contribution brought to this process by SNAO - the development partner of the CoARM , which has been supporting the institution for the last 15 years.

The President of the CoARM spoke about the recent international peer review of the Court of Accounts and the high appreciation of its results by donors and external partners, including the European Commission.

Another topic addressed during the discussions was the challenges faced by the CoARM in the process of institutional consolidation, among them the staff turnover, the reduced possibility of their financial motivation, the difficulties in ensuring the institution's independence, especially the financial one, etc.

Bjorn Linderfalk assured of supporting the efforts to consolidate the supreme audit institution of the Republic of Moldova, highly appreciating the CoARM's performance. The Swedish official also emphasized the importance of continuing the cooperation of the two SAIs within the framework of partnership and development support relations established over the years.

Another important meeting took place today at the headquarters of the Swedish Agency for Development and International Cooperation (Sida). Marian Lupu, the CoARM’s President and Christina Danielsson discussed Sida's support and contribution to the development of the Republic of Moldova, within the financing of programs related to public administration, civil society, economic growth and social development.

Mr. Lupu informed about the strategic objectives of the CoARM in the context of the aspirations of the Republic of Moldova to join the EU, the progress recorded, the problems and the needs to strengthen the capacities of the institution. Also, the participants in the discussions talked about the support given by the Swedish National Audit Office in the process of developing the CoARM and the intentions to continue the cooperative relations.

We mention that the meetings were organized in the context of the meeting of the Coordination Committee of the CoARM-SNAO Cooperation Project, organized in Stockholm, Sweden, during the current December 15-16.
