Liaison Officers from the Network of the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of candidate and potential candidate countries to the European Union (EU) met on June 20 in the city of Lisbon, Portugal. Violeta Balan, Head of the External Relations and Communication Section, the CoARM’s Liaison Officer, represented the Court of Accounts of the Republic of Moldova (CoARM).
The meeting was also attended by the representatives of the European Court of Auditors and SIGMA – the joint initiative of the OECD and the EU, as main partners providing support and expertise to the Network.
The meeting was chaired by the SAI of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the current Chair of the Network. The agenda of the meeting was primarily focused on the examination and discussion of the new organization and operation document of the Network - the Cooperation Framework of the Network. The draft document was presented by the members of the Working Group, created for the elaboration of the Framework – the SAI of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The document stipulates the mission and objectives of operation, procedures for admission to the Network, organization and structure, roles and responsibilities, processes and procedures of operation, etc.
Also, the participants discussed the results of the activities carried out in the current year in the context of the implementation of the Activity Plan of the Network for the period 2022-2025, such as the Quality Management Webinar held in April and the Roundtable on Stakeholder Engagement held in June in the city of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The event was traditionally organized on the eve of the annual meeting of the Contact Committee of the Supreme Audit Institutions of the European Union, which will take place on June 21-22 in the city of Lisbon, Portugal.
The Network of the Supreme Audit Institutions of candidate and potential candidate countries for the EU accession is an initiative launched alongside the Contact Committee of the EU to ensure cooperation, exchange of knowledge and professional experience for the purpose of developing SAI capacities in candidate and potential candidate countries on the path to EU accession.
We mention that the activity within the Network was boosted with the acceptance of new members – the SAIs from the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, as institutions from countries with candidate status to join the EU, a status granted in 2022. The new participants, especially the CoARM, supported the revision of the Network's Work Plan, developed with the support of SIGMA – the joint initiative of the OECD and the EU, as well as actively collaborated with the Network's Chair to develop the Network's organization and operation document.
