On January 29, 2010, the delegation of Georgia’s Chamber of Control met the President of the Parliamentary Committee for Economy, Budget and Finance, Mr. Veacheslav Ioniţă. The meeting was also attended by Georgia’s Ambassador to Romania and Moldova, Mr. Levan Metreveli, Vice-President of the Court of Accounts of Moldova, Mrs. Elisaveta Foca, and member of the Court of Accounts, Mrs. Ecaterina Paknehad.
During the meeting, the talks were focused on the need for support from the Parliamentary Commission to the Court of Accounts. This requirement is imposed by international standards and best practices. Also, an exchange of views on improving cooperation between the audit institutions of both countries took place and a platform for an eventual long-term cooperation was established.
President of the Georgian Chamber of Control Mr. Levan Bezhashvili noted that the visit had been interesting and useful for the representatives of Georgia. Thus, they got familiarized with the audit standards applied by the Court of Accounts of Moldova, audit experience gained during the three years of collaboration with the National Audit Office of Sweden and the World Bank and difficulties overcome by the Court of Accounts. However, he remarked that partnership between the audit institutions of Moldova and Georgia is indispensable and very effective.
In this context, the chairman of the Committee for Economy, Budget and Finance Mr. Veacheslav Ioniţă said that cooperation in this direction is a good omen and bases on a long-term partnership.
The working visit lasted two days, during which the representatives of the Georgian Chamber of Control took over the experiences of their colleagues from the Court of Accounts of Moldova.
