On October 19-20, the Court of Accounts of the Republic of Moldova (CoARM) participated in the annual session of the EUROSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing (WGEA). The event was organized online by the Supreme Audit Office of Poland.

The annual session of the EUROSAI WGEA brought together representatives of the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) from Poland, Belgium, Serbia, Slovakia, Malta, Estonia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Italy, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Germany, etc.

The purpose of the annual session was to involve the SAIs and raise awareness among environmental experts on nature regeneration by setting quite ambitious goals in the field of biodiversity (habitat protection measures, tree planting, pollination improvement), archeology, agriculture (by reducing pesticides, fertilizers).

The meeting presented alternative sources of renewable energy, which must be promoted to reduce the major burden of destroying nature as a result of human activities (deforestation, burning of fuel, wood, coal), which would reduce the destructive impact on the environment.

The participants in the event, on the second day of the annual session, were divided into working groups, such as climate, industry, energy and "green financing". The leaders of the working groups proposed topics for future joint audits in the field of environmental protection. Also, were presented the good practices used in many countries, in the field of renewable energy, and the comparison of solutions, data and restrictions already introduced in the member countries.

The Court of Accounts pays particular attention to environmental issues, conducting a series of audits in the field, including joint audits at international level.

We note that the European Commission recently launched the European Call for Green Agreement in order to stimulate green recovery and mobilize the research and innovation community, the private sector and other stakeholders. In this context, about 72 research and innovation projects have been selected for funding, which will contribute to the solution of climate crisis and the protection of unique ecosystems and biodiversity.
