Marian Lupu, President of the Court of Accounts of the Republic of Moldova (CoARM) participated in the online public event “Moldova - candidate country: The next steps towards the opening of accession negotiations with the European Union”, organized on July 13 by the Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IEPR) in partnership with Expert-Grup and other civil society organizations.

The purpose of the event was to discuss the priorities and steps to be taken by the authorities at national level, in dialogue with the EU, as well as cooperation with civil society to move towards the opening of accession negotiations. Representatives of national public institutions and non-governmental organizations attended the discussions.

We mention that the theme of the event has a strategic importance for the Republic of Moldova, in the context of granting the status of candidate country for accession to the European Union. The new statute sets out a set of strategic priorities for meeting the conditions for the candidate countries, set by the European Commission.

In this process, the Court of Accounts clearly set out its priorities for strengthening external public audit, priorities derived from Chapter 32 of the EU Questionnaire, completed in the process of granting EU candidate status, as well as from the results of the evaluation of public expenditure performance and financial accountability (PEFA). These priorities are also found in the Court of Accounts' Development Strategy for 2021-2025 and in other documents guiding the work of the Supreme Audit Institution.
